This site contains images taken by Timothy Tonge, as well as railroad photography discussion.  Tim began shooting trains in 1972 by walking to the New York Susquehanna and Western in Hawthorne, NJ and riding a bicycle to the Erie Lackawanna in Ridgewood, at a time when E8s still pulled commuter trains, SD45s pulled hotshot freights, and RS-1’s led NYSW locals. Friendly train crews often would allow cab rides on the NYSW, usually in Alco RS-1s or EMD GP18s.  In addition, John Treen, a NYSW conductor, showed multimedia railroad slide shows, cementing the interest in railroad photography.

In 1975, Tim relocated to Colorado for college, and thus began over 45 years of western railroad photography.

In addition to railroad photography, Tim is the department photographer for Castle Rock Fire and Rescue, and shoots extensive images of fire/rescue subjects.  Landscape photography of the Four Corners Region of  the United States is another favorite subject.

Nikon digital camera’s are used to produce the latest images along with a variety of Nikon lenses.  All images are shot in raw format and “processed” utilizing Adobe’s Photoshop and Lightroom .
